21 Booked for Drunken Driving in Nellore District Night Checks

Nellore: Nellore police conducted intensive night-time vehicle checks across the district, booking 21 cases of drunken driving and 18 cases for consumption of alcohol in public areas, besides issuing 242 e-challans. Vehicles driven under the influence of alcohol were seized, and fines totalling Rs 1,56,260 were imposed.
The special drive was conducted as part of district-wide nakabandi operations from 10 pm on Saturday to 1 am on Sunday to maintain law and order, prevent crimes during night hours and enhance public safety.
Police carried out inspections in areas vulnerable to the movement of miscreants, gangs and rowdy elements. Details of unidentified and suspicious persons were collected, and those without valid identity proof were questioned. Legal action was initiated wherever required.
People moving during late hours were stopped and questioned about their destination and purpose. Appropriate action was taken against those who failed to provide satisfactory answers.
Special mobile patrols were deployed in locations where youths tend to gather at night to curb rowdyism and gang-related activities. Foot and baton patrols were also conducted in sensitive areas to ensure a sense of security among the public.
Railway stations, bus stands, market areas and poorly lit or vulnerable locations were kept under special surveillance. Surprise checks were carried out at key junctions, with focused inspections of two-wheelers, cars, autos and traveller vehicles.
Drivers found under the influence of alcohol were booked under the Motor Vehicles Act and their vehicles were seized. Police also conducted special checks on people leaving bars and restaurants after closing hours.
