TIRUPATI: Around 1,600 tonnes of dry fodder was donated to the Sri Venkateswara Goshala in Tirupati on Sunday through 180 lorries under the leadership of Jyothula Nehru along with Nehru Foundation and Srinivasa Seva Trust chairman T. Satyanarayana.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary said cow protection was a sacred service in Indian culture and appreciated the donors for collecting the fodder from Jaggampeta in Kakinada district and bearing transportation expenses for the large-scale donation.

He said the fodder would be supplied to TTD goshalas at Tirupati, Tirumala, Palamaner and Kamalayyagaripalli near Bakarapeta, where 2,974 cows, bulls and calves are currently being maintained.

Jyothula Nehru said the donation had increased from 38 lorries last year to 180 this year and thanked farmers of Jaggampeta for donating the fodder free of cost. He also donated two cows and a calf to the goshala.

Several TTD board members and officials attended the programme.
