ANANTAPUR: The Water Resources Department has sanctioned ₹13.28 crore for the widening of the High-Level Main Canal from Jeedipalli Reservoir towards the Penna Ahobilum Balancing Reservoir (PABR) in the Uravakonda area of Anantapur district.

This move comes in the context of the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project, wherein the main canal originates from Malyalam, the zero milestone of the Krishna backwaters of the Srisailam Reservoir, and flows into the Jeedipalli Reservoir in Belaguppa mandal of Anantapur district.

From Jeedipalli, water is diverted both towards the PABR project and to the second phase of the HNSS project, benefiting Satya Sai and Chittoor districts.

However, due to the poor condition of the main canal segment from Jeedipalli to PABR, the department has approved ₹13.28 crore for its widening to improve flow and efficiency.

The PAB Reservoir remains the primary storage source for both the TB High-Level Main Canal and the HNSS project.
