Raipur: A 28-year-old woman was killed and six others injured after a ropeway trolley crashed near a hilltop shrine in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 10 am when the cable of the trolley snapped while it was descending from the Khallari Mata temple in Khallari village under Bagbahra tehsil, officials said.
The trolley fell from a height of about 300 ft, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to six others. Eight people were travelling in the trolley, and one escaped unhurt.
The deceased has been identified as Ayusi Satkar.
The injured include Govind Swami, 47, Namita Swami, 48, Kusmita Swami, 10, Mansavi Godaria, 12, Rishav Dhavre, 29, and Chayans Dhavre, 16. All were shifted to a nearby government hospital for treatment.
Officials said the victims were returning from the temple when the accident occurred. The shrine, located at a height of about 1,100 ft, witnesses heavy footfall during the Navratri festival.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed grief over the incident and ordered an inquiry.
In a related development, another trolley carrying pilgrims experienced a jolt following the accident, but no major injuries were reported.
