Washington: Telugu Couple Killed, Children Injured In Road Accident
The couple were natives of Palakollu in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh.
Hyderabad, Rahamnundry: A West Godavari-based couple, Krishna Kishore Kotikalapudi, 50, and wife Appana Venkata Asha, 48, died on Interstate 95 (I-95) highway in Charlotte Maryland, when a SUV coming from the opposite direction crashed into their minivan. Their children, a 23-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old son survived the crash with injuries and were taken to a trauma centre.
They were travelling home in Virginia in the minivan after their flight which was supposed to land in the Dulles Airport at Washington landed in New York due to weather-related issues.
Kishore was driving and his wife Asha was seated in the front passenger seat while both their children were sitting in the rear seats. At about 2.45 am local time, a car travelling in the wrong direction on the highway slammed head-on into their car.
Kishore died on the spot while Asha was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Their children, a 23-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old son, were rushed to a trauma centre.
Kishore’s family is from Palakollu in West Godavari district. Family members of Krishna Kishore, speaking with Deccan Chronicle, said that the family recently travelled to India.
“Kishore and his family were in Palakollu and left just 10 days ago. He has been working as a software engineer in the US for more than 10 years, and they all are a very homely family. It is a major shock to us”, said a relative.
The Maryland state police said that the SUV driver, who might not have been mentally or physically fit to drive, was unharmed and remained at the scene. In a press release, the police said "Charges may be pending the outcome of the investigation and consultation with the office of the state’s attorney in Howard County," police said.
