At the age of 94, veteran scholar, attorney, and political pundit Abdul Ghafoor Majeed Noorani, also known as A.G. Noorani, has passed away.
"A.G. Noorani, a giant among scholars, has left us. I learned so much from him—about the Constitution, Kashmir, China, and even the art of savoring good food. May Allah grant him maghfirah," wrote AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on X.
Noorani was one of the last remaining experts on the Indian Constitution from his generation.
Born in Bombay in 1930, Noorani contributed columns to a number of magazines, including Dainik Bhaskar, Hindustan Times, The Hindu, Dawn, The Statesman, Frontline, and Economic and Political Weekly. He started writing in the early 1960s and produced thousands of articles.
