Naveen Patnaik To Meet Defeated BJD Candidates On June 10

Bhubaneswar: In a significant organisational exercise aimed at revitalising the party after its electoral setback, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik will hold discussions with candidates who lost the 2024 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections on June 10.
The meeting will be held at the party's state headquarters, Sankha Bhawan, at 4 pm and is expected to focus on strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level and reviewing the party's ongoing outreach initiatives.
According to party sources, all candidates who contested the 2024 general elections on a BJD ticket but were unsuccessful have been asked to attend. The interaction will provide an opportunity for the leaders to share constituency-level feedback and discuss organisational challenges and political developments in their respective areas.
The meeting assumes significance as the BJD continues its efforts to regroup after losing power in Odisha for the first time in nearly 24 years and transitioning into the role of the principal Opposition party in the state.
Sources said the discussions will include a review of the implementation of the party's SIR-related programmes and an assessment of progress made in the appointment and training of booth-level workers across constituencies. The BJD recently constituted a state-level monitoring team to supervise these activities and ensure better coordination between the party's central leadership and grassroots units.
Participants are also expected to brief the party president on the formation of block-level and urban organisational committees and report on political and organisational programmes conducted in their respective regions.
Since the 2024 elections, the BJD has undertaken a series of organisational reforms, including restructuring key leadership positions and strengthening its grassroots network in a bid to rebuild its political base. The June 10 meeting is being viewed as part of that broader strategy to reconnect with party workers, assess ground realities and prepare the organisation for future political challenges.
Political observers believe the interaction will also help the party leadership gauge the mood at the grassroots level and identify areas requiring immediate organisational intervention as the BJD seeks to reinvent itself in the Opposition.
