Visakhapatnam: The Coastal Conservation Foundation (CCF) and East Coast Conservation Team (ECCT) are hosting an "Intertidal Bioblitz" from January 26 to February 4. This week-long event aims to document intertidal biodiversity across India, engaging participants from Visakhapatnam, Mumbai, Goa, and other coastal cities.
Sri Chakra Pranav, ECCT coordinator, described a bioblitz as a collaborative effort to record species in a specific area. This initiative highlights the vibrant ecosystems between high and low tide lines. Participants, including volunteers, scientists, and educators, will gather data using the iNaturalist platform, contributing to a global database that aids research and conservation.
Pranav emphasised that bioblitzes promote citizen science, environmental awareness, and coastal habitat preservation. Observations will support policies addressing threats like pollution and habitat destruction while inspiring future conservation efforts. For more details, contact tact@coastalconservation.in.
