HYDERABAD:  Senior BRS leader and party Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiam Srihari, on Friday said the party had gone off the rails and no longer had the trust of the people. Though the BRS is now in the Opposition after having ruled for ten years, Srihari’s comments in a brief conversation with mediapersons at his residence assumed significance in the wake of his decision to join the Congress along with his daughter Dr Kadiam Kavya.

He was speaking after AICC general secretary Deepa Das Munshi, accompanied by senior Congress leaders, called on him at his residence in the city to invite him and his daughter to join the party.

Srihari, to a question on why he was willing to join the Congress, responded saying the BRS was losing ground for various reasons. “People are moving away from the BRS. To serve the people and do something for the constituency, we have to take a call, a decision,” Srihari said.

Though Srihari, for the record said that he would announce his decision on joining the Congress after consulting his followers and party workers, his comments on the BRS and its current status made it clear that he had made up his mind.

Friday was not the first time Srihari pointed out how people were moving away, or to reasons over which the BRS had lost support. It may be recalled that it was during the BRS’ reviews for the reasons for its loss in the Assembly elections that Srihari became the first to broach the subject of disenchantment among party leaders and workers on the party leadership’s decision to change the name of TRS to BRS.
