Odisha To Mandate Green Stickers, PUCC Compliance From February
The move, he said, is aimed at improving regulatory compliance and curbing vehicular pollution across the state. Transport department officials have been directed to intensify checks once the new requirement comes into force
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will make green stickers mandatory for all vehicles from February as part of efforts to strengthen enforcement of the Motor Vehicles Act, state commerce and transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena said on Saturday.
The minister said vehicle owners will also be required to carry all prescribed documents, including a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC), failing which penal action will be initiated.
The move, he said, is aimed at improving regulatory compliance and curbing vehicular pollution across the state. Transport department officials have been directed to intensify checks once the new requirement comes into force.
Jena added that the government would undertake awareness campaigns to ensure motorists are informed about the new norms ahead of their implementation.
The minister also expressed concerns over the issuance of pollution certificates, stating that both new and old vehicles are currently receiving PUCCs, which requires closer scrutiny. He said the matter would be examined in detail to ensure the system functions as intended and genuinely contributes to reducing vehicular pollution.
Reiterating the government’s position, the minister said the objective of introducing green stickers and enforcing documentation norms is environmental protection rather than revenue generation. He urged motorists to ensure their documents are in order ahead of February, when the green sticker requirement will come into force across the state.
