New Delhi: Internal security, strategies to combat Left Wing Extremism (Naxalism), counter-terrorism efforts, drug control, cyber security and border management will be the key focus areas at the all-India conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police being held in Chhattisgarh from November 28 to 30.

The three-day high-profile security conference is being hosted for the first time in Chhattisgarh’s capital, Raipur, officials said.

The 60th edition of the annual meet will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the valedictory session.

The event is being organised at the new Marine Drive complex in New Raipur, with Directors General of Police and Inspectors General from across the country participating.

Officials said the conference will deliberate in depth on internal security challenges, including Naxalism, counter-terrorism strategies, drug trafficking, cyber threats and border management.

Sources indicated that this year’s conference will place “special emphasis on Naxal-affected regions.”

Recent joint operations by state police and central forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region have achieved significant success, and future plans in this direction will be discussed, officials added.

This will be Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to Chhattisgarh this month, following his presence at the State Foundation Day celebrations on November 1. However, his schedule may change depending on circumstances.

PM Modi also attended the 59th edition of the conference held from November 30 to December 1, 2024, at the State Convention Centre, Lok Seva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

That conference focused on key components of national security, including counter-terrorism, Left Wing Extremism, coastal security, new criminal laws and narcotics. The President’s Police Medal for distinguished service was also presented there.

The annual DGP–IGP conference serves as an interactive platform for senior police leaders and security administrators to discuss national security issues and operational, infrastructural and welfare-related challenges faced by police forces nationwide. Discussions also facilitate sharing of best practices in crime control, law and order, and internal security.

PM Modi has shown sustained interest in the conference, encouraging open and informal discussions to promote new ideas. Since 2014, he has advocated organising the event at different locations across the country.

Past venues include Guwahati (Assam), the Rann of Kachchh (Gujarat), Hyderabad (Telangana), Tekanpur (Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh), the Statue of Unity (Kevadiya, Gujarat), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), New Delhi and Jaipur (Rajasthan).
