Demolition of Satyajit Ray’s Ancestral Home in Bangladesh Halted

According to reports, Bangladeshi authorities have constituted a committee to explore options for reconstructing the historic structure. The development has shifted what began as a local administrative action into a matter of international cultural concern, with potential diplomatic implications.

The Union government conveyed its objection, urging Bangladesh to preserve the building and also offered support for its preservation. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also raised a strong protest.
