Guwahati: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on Saturday organised a massive public rally in Imphal to press for the protection of Manipur’s territorial and social integrity and restoration of a popular government in the state.

Regretting that hundreds of displaced families are yet to be rehabilitated, the civil society group leaders said that they organised this rally to convey the sentiment of the people who want that all those displaced should be resettled and free movement along all the highways must be restored.

Protesters raised slogans demanding the protection of democratic rights, immediate resettlement of IDPs and the restoration of a popular government in Manipur.

With the President’s Rule set to complete one year on February 12, many speakers at the rally expressed concern over continuance of the President’s rule in the state.

In July 2025, Parliament extended President’s Rule by six months until February 13, 2026. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had justified the extension, citing the need to fully restore law and order before resuming the political process.

The civil society group leaders said the rally was aimed to send a clear message to the Government of India that the people of Manipur seek peace, justice, development and a democratically elected government.

COCOMI leaders expressed confidence that the rally called----Manipur Kanba Khongchat (Save Manipur Rally)----would be able to send a strong message to New Delhi reflecting the aspirations and concerns of the people of Manipur.

The organisers asserted that they wanted to convey the collective voice of the people on issues concerning the integrity and future of Manipur.

The rally which started from Tiddim Ground, Kwakeithel witnessed participation from clubs, organisations, women’s groups and civil society members from across the state concluded at Thau Ground with a public convention.
