Vizag Police Bust ₹82.95 Lakh Digital Arrest Scam
Cyber Crime Police arrested the prime accused on Thursday after tracking the network.
Visakhapatnam:Visakhapatnam city police have busted a major cyber fraud involving a “digital arrest” scam that cheated a retired Food Corporation of India manager of ₹82.95 lakh.
Cyber Crime Police arrested the prime accused on Thursday after tracking the network.
The victim was targeted through a WhatsApp call by fraudsters posing as Mumbai Crime Branch officials, who claimed his Aadhaar was linked to a money-laundering case. Using forged documents and a staged video call with a fake “judge”, they coerced him into transferring money in instalments.
Police said the scam is linked to international cybercrime syndicates operating from Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam, which use Indian recruits to supply bank accounts for siphoning funds.
In this case, Nageswarayya was arrested for providing mule accounts to two associates, Manikanta and Chandu. Earlier, nine others linked to similar networks were arrested.
