Bhubaneswar: Fear and uncertainty have gripped several villages in Odisha's Ganjam district after a series of wild boar attacks left six people seriously injured in the Haridapadar panchayat area under Aska block.

According to local residents, the wild boar entered human settlements during the daytime and attacked villagers in Kumbhari, Venkataraipalli and Haridapadar villages, triggering panic across the region.

The injured were initially treated at healthcare facilities in Aska and Berhampur. However, two of the victims, who sustained severe injuries, were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment.

The repeated sightings of the animal near residential areas have disrupted normal life in the affected villages. Residents say many people have begun carrying sticks while venturing outdoors as a precautionary measure. Parents are reportedly restricting children from leaving their homes, while several villagers have started moving in groups to avoid potential encounters with the animal.

“This is the first time we have witnessed a wild boar entering villages and attacking people,” said a local resident. Villagers noted that wild boars were previously seen only in agricultural fields and nearby forest areas and had rarely entered densely populated settlements.

The fear of further attacks has also affected agricultural activities, with many farmers reluctant to visit their fields. Residents expressed concern that the situation could worsen if immediate preventive measures are not taken.

Locals have urged the forest department to intervene, monitor the movement of the animal and take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of villagers. Officials are yet to issue a detailed statement on the incidents.
