Rape Victim Bid to End Life, Died of Injuries

Hyderabad:A 21-year-old speech challenged woman from Meerpet on Sunday succumbed to her attempt to die by suicide, after allegedly being sexually assaulted by her neighbour 20 days ago. The victim’s father filed a complaint, Meerpet police said.

The victim was at home when a neighbour entered the house and sexually assaulted her. Due to her inability to speak, she was unable to call for help, police said. The accused also inflicted injuries on her neck during the assault and threatened the victim with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

Following the attack, the victim attempted to die by suicide. She was rescued by her family members who had returned by then. They assumed that the injury on her neck was caused during the suicide attempt.

The victim, in shock and still scared by the attacker’s warning, told her family members of the assault later. Her father approached the Meerpet police who registered a case of abetment to suicide and began looking for her attacker. Police handed over the victim’s body to her family for final rites on Monday.
