Bhopal: A petty quarrel between two groups in a town in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district escalated into communal clashes, leading to imposition of section 144 and flag march by the police.
A heated exchange between two groups in Tarana, nearly 35 km from the district headquarters of Ujjain, late on Thursday evening took a violent turn when one group attacked the other allegedly with rods, leading to injuries to the local leader of a Hindu outfit.
Tarana block medical officer Dr Pramod Argal said that one Sahil Thakur, 23, was brought to the hospital with head injuries.
Thakur is the local unit president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
The incident triggered violence in the town on Friday with the two warring groups belonging to different communities engaged in pitched battle at the local bus stand by resorting to stone pelting against each other.
A shop was torched and 11 parked buses were vandalized by the miscreants during the clashes, police said.
Section 144 was imposed in the area and flag march was conducted in the town by the police.
According to Ujjain district superintendent of police Pradeep Sharma, six people were arrested in connection with the incident.
Situation was now brought under control, he said.
