Bhubaneswar: A 30-year-old migrant labourer from Keonjhar district was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Chennai on Wednesday, triggering shock and outrage among his family and villagers. The deceased, identified as Madhusudan Naik of Kumunia village under Ghasipura police limits, was reportedly working as a daily wage labourer in the southern city.

Naik’s family has alleged foul play, claiming that he was brutally assaulted and murdered. A disturbing photograph reportedly sent to the family shows Naik’s hands tied with thick wires and his body soaked in blood, with visible head injuries. “We got a call from my brother-in-law, who informed us about the incident and sent us the photo. My son’s hands were bound and his head was badly injured. They left him to die,” said Rahasa Naik, Madhusudan’s father.

Local reports suggest that Chennai authorities recovered Naik’s body from a forested area and informed his family. However, due to financial hardship, the family was unable to travel to Chennai to claim the body. They alleged that repeated pleas for assistance from the local administration and labour department went unanswered.

With no way to repatriate the body, sources said the deceased was cremated in Chennai itself.

Expressing grief, the former Sarpanch of Gohira gram panchayat said efforts were underway to seek intervention from the district collector. “We are collecting details from the family and will raise the issue with the authorities. It appears he was mercilessly beaten by unidentified persons,” he said.

As of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Chennai police or Keonjhar district administration regarding the incident. The family has demanded a thorough investigation and justice for Madhusudan Naik.
