Kochi Mini Cooper Crash: Voice Message Of Co-accused Key Evidence
Joyel admits they drank alcohol, sped in the car, and that the shock of the accident still haunts him
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the Nedumbassery Mini Cooper crash incident that took three lives in the early hours of October 11, a 1-minute 43-second voice message from co-accused Joyel has become key evidence against the primary accused, Suhail Sajeev.
Joyel admits they drank alcohol, sped in the car, and that the shock of the accident still haunts him.
At 9:25 a.m. on the morning of the accident, Joyel messaged his friend, recalling how they had entered a bar together the previous night and gotten drunk. Suhail Sajeev had already consumed alcohol earlier and drank again.
Joyel said he had beer too. Afterwards, they sped in the car, which collided with a scooter, killing all three victims instantly. Ninav told him and Ameen to escape. He added that the trembling from witnessing the crash and deaths still continues. After the Angamaly Magistrate Court rejected their bail pleas, the accused approached the district court. During the hearing, the prosecution and the lawyer for the family of the deceased Gopika brought the voice message to the court's attention.
Suhail Sajeev's blood and urine tests have confirmed the presence of alcohol. Results of the tests for any other intoxicants are awaited, as are details from the car's event data recorder. Citing these factors, the prosecution had opposed the bail.
The defence argued that the accused have been in remand for more than 14 days, police investigation and evidence collection are complete and keeping 19-year-olds in jail further is not justified.
After hearing both sides, the district court will pronounce its verdict on the bail application on Wednesday.
