Centre Imposes Ban on Sugar Export till Sept 30

Hyderabad: The Central government has imposed a ban on the export of sugar with immediate effect till September 30, 2026, or until further orders.

Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued a notification amending the export policy from 'Restricted' to 'Prohibited'.

The prohibition will not apply to sugar exports to the EU and USA under CXL and TRQ quota, the Advance Authorisation Scheme (AAS), and Government-to-Government shipments to meet food security needs of other countries. Consignments already in the physical export pipeline are also exempted.

This prohibition shall not apply to sugar being exported to the EU and USA under and TRQ-quota, as per the prescribed procedure in the respective public notices.

The export of sugar under the Advance Authorization Scheme (AAS) shall continue to be governed as per existing provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023 and the Handbook of Procedures, 2023

This notification shall come into effect immediately. The provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023 regarding transitional arrangement shall not be applicable under the notification.
