Kolkata:  Anwarul Azim Anar, a Bangladeshi MP who had arrived in Kolkata for medical treatment earlier this month, but had gone missing under suspicious circumstances, is suspected to have been murdered, according to the police. Anar, a three-time Awami League MP of Jhinaidaha-4, was reportedly last seen at an upscale housing apartment in New Town.

The victim's body, yet to be found, is suspected to have been dismembered and disposed of elsewhere. Kolkata police have seized a car believed to have been used in disposing of the body and are searching for another vehicle linked to the crime.
West Bengal's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken charge of the investigation and is collaborating with Bangladeshi authorities. Inspector general Akhilesh Chaturvedi visited the apartment where the murder allegedly occurred.
The murder came to light when blood stains were discovered in the apartment after a tip-off to the police. Anar had entered India on May 12 and stayed with a friend in Baranagar before disappearing a few days later.
Bangladesh's home minister Asaduzzaman Khan stated that Anar was murdered in a planned manner in Kolkata, allegedly by Bangladeshi nationals. Three suspects have been arrested in Bangladesh in connection with the crime. Further details regarding the motive are awaited as investigations continue.
