3 CRPF Jawans Killed, Over A Dozen Injured In J&K Mishap

Srinagar: Three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed and more than 15 others injured, five critically, when their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Basantgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Thursday
The officials said that the vehicle, belonging to the CRPF’s 187th Battalion and carrying 23 personnel, was returning from an operation in Kadwa when the accident occurred around 10:30 am.
They said two personnel died on the spot, and 16 were injured. One of the injured later succumbed, raising the death toll to three.
Rescue operations were promptly launched, with Army helicopters deployed at the request of Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai to airlift the critically injured to hospitals for advanced treatment. Local residents also assisted in the rescue efforts.
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, stating on ‘X’, “Saddened by the loss of CRPF personnel in an accident near Udhampur. We will never forget their exemplary service to the nation. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
He directed officials to ensure the best possible care for the injured and support for the families of the deceased.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh also condoled the loss, posting on ‘X’, “Disturbing to receive news of a road accident involving a CRPF vehicle in the Kandva–Basantgarh area. I have spoken to DC Saloni Rai, who is personally monitoring the situation. Rescue measures were initiated immediately, and locals have voluntarily come forward to assist. All possible help is being ensured.”
