New Delhi: The ambassador of the United States of America Mr Sergio Gor met the National Security Advisor Mr Ajit Doval on Tuesday. He had on Monday met the Foreign Secretary Mr Vikram Misri.

Though both sides did not elaborate on the discussions that took place, the meetings can be seen as preparatory diplomatic parleys ahead of a possible visit of US President Mr Donald Trump to India early next year. US Secretary of State Mr Marco Rubio had recently said that the US is seeking to arrange a visit to India by President Trump early next year as the ‌countries work on a bilateral trade deal.

“These were occasions for both sides to discuss the comprehensive global strategic partnership that India and US share. There are various elements of it where progress is happening and both sides remain committed to further strengthening of ties in areas of trade, defence, energy security, critical minerals and other such areas,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Mr Randhir Jaiswal said.

Mr Gor said his meeting with NSA Mr Doval was to discuss deepening US-India strategic cooperation.

“Had a fruitful meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to discuss deepening US-India strategic cooperation. Our close partnership with India is vital to addressing global security challenges. The United States and India share many of the same goals and our engagement continues to grow!” Mr Gor wrote on X.
