Sergio Gor Named Next US Envoy To India
Vice President JD Vance in a social media post said Gor "will make a fantastic ambassador for our country to India"
New Delhi/Washington: Amid tariff tensions between New Delhi and Washington, the President of the United States of America Donald Trump has nominated his long time trusted aide and “close friend” Sergio Gor, currently director of White House Presidential Personnel Office, as the next Ambassador to India. Gor will concurrently hold charge as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. Gor will succeed Eric Garcetti, who served as ambassador from May 2023 to January 2025. At the age of 39, Gor will be the youngest US envoy to India.
"I am pleased to announce that I am promoting Sergio Gor to be our next United States Ambassador to the Republic of India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. As Director of the White House Presidential Personnel, Sergio and his team have hired nearly 4,000 America first patriots across every department of the federal government in record time. Our department and agencies are over 95 per cent filled! Sergio will remain in his current role at the White House until his confirmation,” said Trump while making the announcement.
He added that Gor is his “great friend” who has been his side for several years now. “He worked on my historic presidential campaigns, published my best-selling books, and ran one of the biggest Super PACs, which supported our movement. Sergio’s role as Director of Presidential Personnel has been essential in delivering on the unprecedented mandate that we received from the American people,” Trump wrote in a social media post.
"For the most populous Region in the World, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador. . Congratulations Sergio," Trump said.
Gor, whose actual name is Sergey Gorokhovsky is a Tashkent (Uzbekistan) born to an Uzek father and Israeli mother in erstwhile USSR. His parents moved to the United States in 1999 when he was 12 and since then he has lived and studied in the country. A dynamic person, he was often seen in squirrel costume in public events at Senator Barack Obama’s events. In 2020 he became part of Trump’s team.
In a social media post said he is "beyond grateful" to Trump for his incredible trust and confidence in nominating him to be the next US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. "It will be the honour of my life to represent the United States," he said.
