Indians Allotted 25% Of Tatarstan Foreign Job Quota

KAZAN (RUSSIA): Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar on Thursday said Indian workers had been allocated around 25 per cent of the foreign workforce quota in Russia's Tatarstan region, while bilateral trade reached $38 billion in the first six months of 2026.
Speaking to visiting Indian journalists at the second annual Tatarstan Initiative Mutual Efficiency (TIME) India-Russia Business Forum in Kazan, the envoy said the two countries were on course to achieve their bilateral trade target of $100 billion by 2030.
He called for stronger cooperation in energy, industry and other sectors, alongside greater people-to-people exchanges.
Kumar described Tatarstan, one of Russia's wealthiest regions, as an important driver of bilateral economic cooperation. He said India, the world's fastest-growing major economy, offered significant opportunities for expanding trade and investment.
Highlighting the broader relationship between the two countries, the ambassador said, "It's not just about money or Roubles (Russian currency). It's about bringing people of the two countries together."
Russian foreign ministry representatives at the forum said a dedicated team in Moscow was working to strengthen relations with India.
Russia is seeking closer economic ties with India and China amid global instability. While Kazan hosts annual China-Russia business engagements in August, the India-Russia forum is held in October.
