BRICS NSAs Review Counter-terror Cooperation
The meeting is focused on the theme “Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today” and is expected to discuss evolving national security concerns, including the role of new technologies in emerging threats
New Delhi: A two-day meeting of National Security Advisers (NSAs) of BRICS countries, chaired by NSA Ajit Doval, began in New Delhi on Monday to deliberate on emerging global security challenges.
The meeting is focused on the theme “Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today” and is expected to discuss evolving national security concerns, including the role of new technologies in emerging threats.
The discussions are being held ahead of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit scheduled to be hosted by India in New Delhi in September.
Officials said the NSAs and heads of delegation would also review outcomes of recent BRICS Joint Working Group meetings on counter-terrorism and security in the use of information and communication technologies.
The expanded BRICS grouping now comprises 11 countries — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, along with Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, which joined over the past two years. Saudi Arabia, however, has so far participated in a limited capacity.
