Priyanka Yadav, a 2025-batch constable, was allegedly hit by a bullet fired from her government-issued INSAS rifle, with police investigating the incident from all angles.

A woman constable posted at a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district died allegedly after being hit by a bullet fired from her government rifle while she was on duty on Tuesday, police said.The incident took place at the women police station in Manjhanpur, the district headquarters, Superintendent of Police Satyanarayan Prajapat said.

The constable, identified as Priyanka Yadav, 25, was immediately taken by her colleagues to the district hospital in Manjhanpur, where doctors declared her dead, the SP said.
"Priyanka Yadav, a woman constable of the 2025 batch, was on sentry duty at the Mahila Police Station this morning. She was carrying a government-issued INSAS rifle when the incident occurred," Prajapat said.
On being informed, the SP, Additional Superintendent of Police Amita Singh and other senior officers reached the hospital and later inspected the scene at the police station.
A field unit has been collecting forensic evidence from the spot. The mobile phone of the deceased constable was also found at the scene, police said.
Yadav was originally from Ghazipur district and her family had been informed about her death, the SP said, adding that the body has been sent for a postmortem.
A police team headed by the Manjhanpur Circle Officer has been constituted to investigate the incident from all angles. The team will examine CCTV footage and record statements of witnesses before preparing a detailed report, the SP said.
"The exact cause of the death will be clear only after the investigation report is received," he said.
