Woman Assaulted in Odisha’s Angul; Three Arrested
Two Minors Among Accused in Disturbing Gang-Rape Case
A horrific assault took place in Odisha’s Angul district, where a woman was allegedly gang-raped by three individuals, two of whom are minors, while she had stopped in a roadside forest. All three accused have been apprehended by the police.
The incident occurred on July 3, as the woman was traveling back from Chhendipada on a motorcycle with her nephew. She stopped near a forested area to relieve herself when three individuals arrived on a tractor and allegedly attacked her.
The victim lodged a complaint at Bagdia police station on Tuesday, over a month after the incident. Following the complaint, police promptly registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation.
“Three specialized police teams were formed, operating under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police to locate and arrest the accused,” a police statement reported.
A forensic team and a dog squad were deployed to assist in the investigation. Authorities recovered key evidence, including the tractor used in the crime, the accused’s mobile phones, clothing worn during the incident, and biological samples.
Designated as both a “special report” and a “Red Flag” case, the investigation requires the charge sheet to be filed within 30 days. Angul police have committed to seeking a fast-tracked trial to ensure swift and severe punishment for the perpetrators.
