KOLKATA: Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has deferred her New Delhi tour following Cockroach Janata Party's decision to end its agitation at Jantar Mantar after resignation of union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday over the NEET question paper leak scandal.

The former West Bengal chief minister, who was supposed to fly to the national capital on Monday to attend the protest, spoke to CJP chief Avijit Dipke over phone on Saturday and also congratulated him over the successful outcome of the agitation, according to sources.

Beleghata TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh and party spokesperson said, “Didi has been in touch with her moral support to those who have been in the movement since its beginning at Jantar Mantar. As the main demand of the protesters has been met, she has postponed her Delhi visit as of now but is maintaining the touch.”

He also indicated that the TMC chief would visit New Delhi later. TMC social media wing head Upasana Chowdhury however claimed that Mr Pradhan's resignation happened within a few days of Ms Banerjee's recent announcement to join the CJP stir. She even argued that if the TMC chief had shared her plans earlier, Mr Pradhan would have pre-poned his exit also.
