Kolkata/Berhampore: Ignoring West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's requests, governor CV Ananda Bose embarked on a visit to violence-hit areas at Jangipur in Murshidabad on Friday.

In the morning, Mr Bose traveled in train to Malda where he met the homeless villagers of Dhulian in Murshidabad at a relief centre in Parlalpur High School. He will visit the troubled areas in Murshidabad on Saturday.

He said, "I met the homeless people at the camp. They are still scared and requested for permanent protection from the Border Security Force because they were assaulted. They now want justice. Peace and harmony should be maintained in those troubled areas for their safety."

The governor added, "This type of violence and turmoil is never tolerated. Restoring peace is underway at the ground level."

A day before his visit, the CM said, “I appeal to all not to visit Murshidabad now. I could have gone there. If I would, others will also follow. This may jeopardize the peace. A confidence building measure is underway.”

Earlier, four members of National Human Rights Commission also visited the relief centre. They spoke and recorded the statements of the homeless people. Later the NHRC team visited violence torn Dhulian and Shamshergunj in Murshidabad.

Meanwhile, a National Women Commission team headed by its chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar also visited the relief centre also. They assured justice to the homeless. Later, Ms Rahatkar said, "We inspected and heard them. We will visit troubled areas and meet the police and administration to ensure their safety. We will meet the Governor on Sunday and will submit a detail report to the Centre."

At Jangipur, many doctors opened "Abhaya Clinic" in Dhulian. They treated and distributed medicines to the affected free of cost.
