Veteran Marathi Actor Gets Relief In 26-Year-Old Land Dispute
Mr Shinde has ordered a temporary stay on the TDR transaction until all concerned parties are heard and the matter is thoroughly examined: Reports
MUMBAI: Days after threatening to return her state awards, veteran Marathi actor Usha Chavan has received interim relief from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in connection with a contentious Transferable Development Rights (TDR) dispute involving her land in Pune’s Dhankawadi area.
Mr Shinde has ordered a temporary stay on the TDR transaction until all concerned parties are heard and the matter is thoroughly examined. The decision came after the veteran actor personally approached the deputy Chief minister seeking intervention in the case.
Following disputes over the land owned by Ms Chavan, she had released a video on social media publicly appealing to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Mr Shinde for justice. Subsequently, her husband, Dattatray Kadu Deshmukh, also addressed the media in Pune regarding the issue.
The land dispute has reportedly been pending in court for the past 26 years. Eventually, the court upheld the claim of her son, Hridaynath Deshmukh, over the property. However, despite the judgment, private developer Goel Ganga allegedly transferred the TDR of the land in its own name, following which Ms Chavan sought intervention from the deputy Chief minister.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office, Ms Chavan on Sunday visited Anand Ashram near Tembhi Naka in Thane along with her son to pursue the matter. She explained the reason for her visit to Shiv Sena workers, who immediately informed actor-producer Mangesh Desai about the issue. After understanding her grievance in detail, Mr Desai conveyed the matter to Mr Shinde.
“Following this, Mr Shinde contacted K.H. Govindaraj and instructed that the TDR transaction approved by the Pune Municipal Corporation be temporarily stayed. The deputy Chief minister also directed those separate hearings of both parties, the developer and the PMC, be conducted before him,” an official from the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office said.
Mr Shinde said all parties should present their arguments along with supporting documents before him. “The transaction would be approved only after all aspects of the matter are thoroughly examined,” he said.
The deputy Chief minister also spoke to Ms Chavan over the phone through Mr Desai’s mobile phone. Mr Shinde, who also heads the Urban Development Department, assured the veteran actor that the transaction had been temporarily stayed and that injustice would not be allowed against anyone. He further asked her to submit all relevant documents during the next hearing, stating that a final decision would be taken after a thorough examination of the records.
