US Envoy: Modi-Trump Spoke Last Week, Stay Tuned For What's Next
“The US and India have great relations. There is so much happening. Pick any sector and we are working together at it": US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor
KOLKATA: US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has indicated fresh developments in the bilateral ties between the two countries, saying “stay tuned for what comes next,” after he revealed that a telephonic conversation took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US president Donald Trump last week.
Mr Gor, who was in the city on Monday to visit some Durga Puja pandals and to attend the US National Day reception, marking the celebration of 250 years of American independence, also asserted further expansion of partnership between the two nations across multiple sectors.
While interacting with the media at the US event, Mr Gor said, “The US and India have great relations. There is so much happening. Pick any sector and we are working together at it. You look at defence. In the last two weeks alone, we had exercises with over 500 troops at Tarang Shakti. We had F-35s (US fighter jets) for the first time in Rajasthan.”
He added, “If you look at IT development, there have been incredible things happening both ways, investment to the US and some of our companies are opening big production facilities here. So it is an incredible opportunity.
If you look at healthcare, we import a significant amount of genetic pharmaceuticals from India because we trust India. So, there is a lot happening. The Prime Minister and President Trump just spoke last week. And I would say: Stay tuned to what comes next.”
Earlier while addressing the event, Mr Gor said, “Tonight, we celebrate 250 years of American freedom: the freedom to build, to compete, and to win. And here in Kolkata, we also celebrate a U.S.-India partnership that is delivering real results for both of our nations.
The United States and India are trusted partners, and the opportunities ahead of us are incredible. From trade and technology to security and the Quad, we are working together to build a more prosperous and secure future for both of our peoples.”
