US Embassy, Consulates in India Closed Dec 24–26 Following Presidential Order
U.S. citizens needing urgent help should use emergency contact lines on embassy websites
The U.S. Embassy and Consulate offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata are closed from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, through Friday, December 26, 2025. The closure is due to a U.S. Presidential Executive Order closing federal departments and agencies, plus the Christmas Day holiday on December 25.
Routine consular services, including visa interviews, passport processing, and document verification, are suspended during these three days. Services resume on Monday, December 29, 2025 (December 27-28 are weekend days).
Applicants with scheduled appointments may be contacted for rescheduling. Plan visits accordingly and avoid traveling to consulates until at least December 29 due to potential post-holiday backlogs.
Check official websites or emails for updates.
U.S. citizens needing urgent help should use emergency contact lines on embassy websites. No walk-ins or routine queries during closure. These dates align with the official 2025 holiday schedule.
