New Delhi:Amid concerns over the exclusion of eligible voters during electoral roll revisions, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Wednesday announced special measures to enrol women and young voters ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for early 2027.

The CEO's office said district election officers had been directed to identify eligible citizens missing from electoral rolls by cross-checking Assembly voter lists with those of panchayats and urban local bodies. Assistance would also be sought from ration shops to identify unregistered voters.

Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said every effort would be made to ensure that eligible citizens, particularly women and youth, were included during the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, with January 1, 2027, as the qualifying date.

Electoral Registration Officers have been instructed to facilitate the submission of Form 6 applications by eligible citizens whose names do not appear on any Assembly electoral roll in the country.

Special emphasis will be placed on enrolling first-time voters in the 18–19 age group. Educational institutions and voter literacy clubs will be involved in identifying eligible students and facilitating their registration.

The CEO's office also expressed concern over the disproportionately low number of women voters compared with men on the existing electoral rolls.

District election officers have been directed to seek assistance from Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), anganwadi workers and women associated with self-help groups to identify and enrol eligible women.

The special drive is aimed at ensuring that eligible voters are not left out of the electoral rolls ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
