UP Bride Calls off Wedding Over ₹20 Lakh Dowry Demand, Says She Won’t Marry Greedy Groom

In a shocking turn of events, a marriage that was to take place in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, was cancelled at the last minute over an alleged dowry demand by the groom of ₹20 lakh in cash and a car before the sacred rituals. The incident has triggered a raging debate on social media, especially after a video of the bride explaining her decision went viral.

The wedding preparation was almost complete, and guests had already arrived when things started to take a turn for the worse. According to eyewitnesses, the groom and his family members pressed for the additional dowry, threatening not to continue with the marriage ceremony. The bride, shocked and humiliated by the sudden demand, took a firm stand and refused to proceed with her marriage.

In her viral video message, the bride categorically clarified that she did not want to marry “dowry-greedy people”, and wondered how she would spend her entire life with a man who disrespected her family over such an important issue. Her decision was met with applause from many online users, praising her for being courageous and for standing up for her self-respect.
