Union Cabinet Nod For Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2(A)
The project is aimed at improving connectivity between major residential and commercial areas and will be integrated with the existing metro corridor.
NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved Phase 2(A) of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project at a total cost of Rs 2,169.04 crore, including interest during construction.
The 6.032-km corridor will have five stations — four elevated and one underground — connecting key locations including Ashram Road, Koteshwar Prachin Mandir, Sabarmati River, Sardar Nagar and the Airport. With this phase, the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro network will expand to 77.63 km.
The project is aimed at improving connectivity between major residential and commercial areas and will be integrated with the existing metro corridor.
“The Phase 2(A) represents a significant advancement in the city's infrastructure development and acts as a major expansion of the Metro Rail network in the city,” the government said in a statement.
It added that the project would enhance connectivity, support economic activity and improve urban mobility for residents and visitors.
The government said the expansion could also support infrastructure development in the surrounding areas ahead of events such as the World Police Games 2029 and the Commonwealth Games 2030.
The project is expected to generate employment for about 2,000 people during peak construction and around 500 during operation and maintenance.
The approval marks a further expansion of metro infrastructure in Ahmedabad.
