Two Brothers Swept Away While Fishing In Cuttack River, One Dead, Other Missing
The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Pintu Samal, while his 35-year-old elder brother, Mantu Samal, was yet to be traced.
Bhubaneswar: A fishing trip turned tragic for two brothers after they were swept away by strong currents in the Sapua River near Ichhapur under the Athagarh police limits in Cuttack district on Thursday. While the body of the younger brother was recovered, the elder brother remained missing till the filing of this report.
The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Pintu Samal, while his 35-year-old elder brother, Mantu Samal, was yet to be traced.
According to preliminary information, the two brothers had gone to the river to catch fish when they were swept away by the water. On learning about the incident, local villagers immediately launched a search operation and began scouring the river for the brothers.
During the search, villagers recovered Pintu’s body from the river. However, despite sustained efforts, there was no trace of Mantu.
Following information about the incident, personnel from the fire services department reached the spot and joined the search operation to locate the missing man. The operation continued for several hours but yielded no result till the report was filed. The search was expected to be suspended after nightfall and resumed later, depending on conditions.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Ichhapur, with the family of the two brothers plunged into grief.
Attempts to obtain comments from the victims’ family and the local police were unsuccessful.
