Tragic Road Accident Claims Lives Of Tourist Couple From Gujarat Near Pahalgam

The incident occurred while the group was travelling from the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam towards Aru, an area known for its scenic beauty but also challenging terrain.

According to officials, the ill-fated vehicle, a Tavera bearing registration number JK21A-0379, lost control near the Mandlan area of Pahalgam. It subsequently veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge, resulting in a devastating accident. The vehicle was being driven by Rayees Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Rangward Laripora on Anantnag, who also sustained injuries in the incident.

The accident led to the immediate death of one of the tourists, while another succumbed to injuries later at the hospital, taking the death toll to two. The deceased have been identified as Bawin Bhavsar, son of Mahesh Bhavsar, who was brought dead to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Pahalgam, and his wife Awni Bhavsar, who later died after suffering severe trauma, particularly to her left leg.

Three others were injured in the mishap, including two tourists from Gujarat—Naina Ben, wife of Ashok Bhai, and Ashok Bhai himself—along with the driver, Rayees Ahmad Bhat. All the injured were initially rushed to SDH Pahalgam for emergency treatment. Given the seriousness of their condition, they were later referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for advanced medical care.

Officials confirmed that all the victims were part of the same group travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Further details are awaited as authorities continue their probe into the circumstances that led to the vehicle skidding off the road.
