Three Held in Assam Over Alleged Gang Rape, Murder of Class 10 Student

Three persons, including a minor, have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder of a 15-year-old Class 10 student in Assam's Hailakandi district, police said.
The incident came to light on the night of August 1 when the victim's mother returned home after attending a function at a neighbour's house and found her daughter dead on a bed. Police said the victim was found without clothes and had sustained visible injuries.
Following information from local residents, a team from Katlicherra Police Station reached the spot and shifted the body to SK Roy Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Considering the gravity of the case, police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged crime.
Based on the investigation, three accused, including a minor, were apprehended on August 3. Police said the arrests were made after gathering evidence during the course of the investigation.
The accused have been booked in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder of the minor girl. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the accused or the motive behind the crime.
Police said the investigation is continuing and additional evidence is being collected to establish the sequence of events.
The incident has triggered concern in the district, with police assuring that the case is being investigated on priority and that all those found involved will be brought to justice.
