Mumbai: Mumbai police went into a tizzy on Wednesday after a security scare was reported at the Bhandup residence of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut. An unidentified car bearing threatening messages was found parked outside his home. The vehicle was first noticed by Mr. Raut’s supporters, who alerted the Mumbai police.

According to the police, a WagonR car was spotted outside the MP’s bungalow around 4 p.m. The threat messages were found written on a thick layer of dust covering the vehicle, which had reportedly been abandoned at the spot for several days. One message on the side window read, “Aaj hungama hoga! Aaj raat 12.00 am bomb blast hoga” (There will be chaos today! A bomb blast will occur tonight at 12 am). Another message on the rear windshield stated, “CST mein bomb blast hoga” (A bomb blast will occur at CST), followed by a smiley.

Mumbai Police teams and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. A thorough search of the bungalow premises, including the garden and surrounding lanes, was carried out.

While no suspicious material was found inside the vehicle, the police have seized the car and begun efforts to trace its ownership. “We are taking the threat seriously. CCTV footage from the entire Nahur area is being scanned to identify the person who wrote the messages,” a senior police official said.

As a precautionary measure, security at Mr. Raut’s residence has been beefed up. A case is being registered against an unidentified person in connection with the threat, police said.
