Diplomatic Outreach: MP Baijayant Jay Panda’s Delegation to Visit Kuwait From May 26 to 27
All-party delegations led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and the other by BJP MP Baijyant Panda left on Saturday for their overseas visit to “carry India’s strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism in all its forms”, New Delhi said on Saturday.
New Delhi: India’s parliamentary delegation met dignitaries from South Korea, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Slovenia and Congo on Sunday and told them about India’s stand on terrorism and actions it has taken against the "sponsors of terrorists" as part of Operation Sindoor.
"The delegation reaffirmed India's `new normal’ of swift and decisive retaliation on India's terms against terrorism. They also emphasised that no distinction can be made between terrorists and their sponsors," the Indian embassy in Seoul said in a post on X.
"The Korean side conveyed their firm opposition to terrorism and expressed understanding of India's position," the Indian embassy added.
The delegation, led by JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, is one of the seven multi-party delegations visiting several countries to reach out to the international community on Pakistan's terror designs and India's response. The meeting was attended from South Korea's side by former foreign minister Yoon Young-kwan, National Counter-Terrorism Centre director Major Gen. Shin Sang-gyun, former Korean ambassadors to India Shin Bong-kil and Lee Joon-gyu, among others. The Indian delegation also communicated with the Indian diaspora.
The delegation led by NCP-SP leader Supriya Sule on Sunday met with deputy Speaker of the Qatar Shura Council Hamda Al Sulaiti and other Qatari MPs and conveyed India's national outrage over the Pahalgam terror attack. The delegation highlighted that the visit reflected India's united stance on cross-border terrorism. “Qatar emphasised its own zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and that terrorism must be condemned globally,” the Indian embassy in Qatar posted on X.
The all-party parliamentary delegation led by Baijayant Jay Panda called on Bahrain's deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and discussed India's stance against terrorism.
“India and Bahrain share a deep, historic friendship built on trust, shared values & mutual respect. Together in the fight against terrorism, we discussed matters of mutual interest & India's firm commitment to combat terror in all its forms,” Mr Panda said in a post on X. The multi-party MPs also met Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, the chairman of Shura Bahrain, the Upper House of the legislative body of Bahrain, and “underscored India's resolve to fight against terrorism and strengthen bilateral ties,” said a post on X by the Indian embassy in Bahrain.
During the visit, the delegation also met prominent Indians and civil society members. “We are here at a difficult time... The difficulty has to do with the latest terror attack in Pahalgam and the hostilities with Pakistan thereafter. We come here in friendship to seek support. In all, 26 men were killed at short range in front of their wives after verifying their religion. India has faced many such terrifying terrorist attacks... Our problem is that our terror attacks are all coordinated by one of our neighbours,” Mr Panda said. His delegation will head to Kuwait on May 26.
The delegation led by DMK’s Kanimozhi Karunanidhi on Sunday reached Slovenia after concluding its visit to Russia. Summing up the visit of Indian parliamentarians to Russia, the Indian embassy in Moscow said the two nations share a time-tested relationship based on mutual trust and cooperation underpinned by their special and privileged strategic partnership.
In the United States, the delegation headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor conveyed India’s message on zero tolerance and unified national resolve against terrorism. “The delegation had visited the memorial of 9/11 where it honoured the memory of victims and reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to the global fight against terrorism and its support for all victims of such inhuman acts,” the Indian embassy in New York said.
