Suspected Food Poisoning Hits 50 Kerala Students on Train In MP

Bhopal: Around 50 school children, travelling to Thrissur in Kerala from Delhi in the Mangala Lakshadweep Express, late on Friday night fell ill with suspected food poisoning and were deboarded at Khandwa railway station in Madhya Pradesh for emergency medical treatment.

A team of doctors was deployed at the Khandwa railway station after being alerted by the railway authorities about the sick students.

The school staff accompanying the students had alerted the Khandwa railway station about the sick students and sought medical help for them.

Following this, the Khandwa railway station authorities had made necessary arrangements to provide medical help to the children.

Before the arrival of the train at Khandwa railway station, local chief medical health officer O P Jugawat, civil surgeon from the Khandwa district hospital Dr. Annirudh Kaushal and a team of doctors reached there.

The students were taken off the train as soon as it reached the Khandwa railway station and provided medical treatment.

“Around 50 children said they were suffering from dizziness, vomiting and diarrhea. They were provided first aid treatment and taken back into the train”, Dr. Kaushal said.

The train was detained at the Khandwa railway station for around 40 minutes for the purpose, officials said.

The school children said that they suffered from nausea and vomiting after taking food from the pantry car of the train near Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh.

Khandwa station master G L Meena said that the information about the children was relayed to them and a team of doctors was kept ready at the railway station to treat them.

The train departed Khandwa at around 9.45 pm.

Around 80 school children from Kerala were returning to Thrissur from Delhi in the train after a school tour.
