Shah Dares Rahul To Debate On SIR In House
“The Opposition created a drama of discussion at the ‘fake parliament’": Union home minister Amit Shah
RAIPUR: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday dared Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the parliament, saying that ‘We are ready to convene a special session (of parliament) and discuss the SIR’.
Speaking as a chief guest at the closing ceremony of the three-day Rajyotsav, organized to celebrate the Chhattisgarh Foundation Day (falling on November one), at Nava Raipur, Mr. Shah took strong exception to the recent move by the Congress-led Opposition parties to raise the issue of SIR at ‘Mock Parliament’, held at Delhi, calling it a mockery of the parliament itself.
“The Opposition created a drama of discussion at the ‘fake parliament’. I want to say, Rahul ji, the Narendra Modi government is ready for discussion on every issue. Let the parliament run, we are ready to convene a special session (of parliament) and discuss the SIR”, he said.
Mr. Shah challenged Mr. Gandhi to show up in the House to join the debate on any issue including the SIR.
He took a swipe at the Congress leader for carrying a book on constitution, saying that going around with a book on constitution does not establish the latter’s support for it.
One’s activities should be constitutional, he said, while slamming the frequent disruptions of the proceedings of the parliament by the Congress.
“Let the parliament run. Let us debate (on the SIR). People then will know who is telling the truth and who is lying”, he said.
The union minister said that the Congress party always supported Naxalism.
He recounted former Union home minister P.Chindambaram’s call to the Naxals to come forward for discussion with the government and they need not have to lay down their weapons for it.
“This is not the way to eradicate violence. The Naxals who want to surrender must lay down the weapons. We will bring the Maoists to the mainstream, otherwise they have to face our jawans (if they do not surrender)’, Mr. Shah said.
He also lambasted the human rights activists sympathizing with Maoists, saying that “I want to ask those people who support Naxalism in the name of human rights; Do human rights only belong to those who carry guns and try to create hurdles in the path of development? Do the poor tribals not have human rights?”.
Mr. Shah said that the limbs of many tribals were blown up in the improvised explosive device (IEDs) by the Naxals in the last 30 years and the state government tried to make their life simple by providing them with artificial limbs.
By coming to the help of the IED victims, the state government has demonstrated that it supported their human rights, he said.
The Naxals had blown up the schools, roads and abducted children from schools to arm them with weapons, robbing them of their childhood, he said.
Earlier, Mr. Shah inaugurated the “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Park”, here to turn Nava Raipur a green, clean and environment friendly modern city.
Also described as ‘Peepal City’, the 16 acre-area is planted with more than 2,500 peepal trees and more than 500 saplings of local species.
Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai also spoke on the occasion.
