Bhubaneswar: Security at the 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri came under scrutiny once again after a man attempted to climb the sacred structure on Friday. The incident occurred near the Paschima Dwara (Western Gate), close to the Nrusingha Mandir, raising fresh concerns about the temple's security measures.

The individual was identified as Manoj Singh, a resident of Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh.

According to sources, Singh tried to scale the temple from the Nrusingha Mandir side. However, vigilant security personnel intercepted him midway and safely brought him down. He was immediately detained and taken to the Srimandir police station for questioning.

This incident is the latest in a string of recent security breaches at the iconic shrine. Just days ago, a devotee from Ranchi was caught attempting to climb the temple near the Dakshini Ghara (Southern Gate). In a similar case, another individual from Ganjam district was apprehended while trying to scale the outer walls of the temple.

These repeated breaches have sparked widespread concern about the effectiveness of current security arrangements. Authorities had previously claimed that preventive measures were in place, including the installation of barricades near the Ekadashi Mandir and Dakshini Ghara, as announced by the Puri Superintendent of Police.

Despite these assurances, the recurrence of such incidents raises pressing questions about whether existing security protocols are adequate to safeguard one of the country’s most revered religious sites.
