SCR Upgrades 108-km Stretch to Kavach 4.0
Upgrade brings improved train positioning, location accuracy and optical-fibre communication
New Delhi: Kavach 4.0 has been commissioned on the South Central Railway for the first time, with the upgrade from version 3.2 completed over 108 km of the Malkajgiri-Kamareddi section in the Hyderabad division.
According to the Railways, the new version incorporates improvements drawn from the deployment of Kavach 3.2 over 1,465 km of the South Central Railway network. It is being prepared for wider use across the country.
Kavach is an automatic train protection system that assists loco pilots in keeping trains within prescribed speed limits and can apply the brakes when required. It is designed to reduce the risk of trains passing signals at danger, overspeeding and collisions, including in poor weather conditions.
The improvements in version 4.0 include greater location accuracy, more precise train positioning and station-to-station communication through optical fibre cable.
