KOLKATA: A week after the campus unrest at Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in the city, supporters of a right-wing group, Bangiya Hindu Jagaran Mancha, rallied to the same address on Sunday afternoon and tried to storm the campus after breaking police barricades.

When they failed to enter, they banged on the locked entrance forcibly and hurled water bottles inside towards the students who had also gathered in large numbers in anticipation of a fresh tussle. A brief exchange of stone pelting over the main gate unfolded next. Both sides also shouted slogans at each other triggering fresh tension.

Cops later dispersed the outfit’s followers who had reached the SRFTI entrance at Panchasayar off EM Bypass in a protest rally from Ajoynagar for a demonstration. The rallyists claimed that they wanted to show their might to the SRFTI students for raising anti-national slogans earlier.

They further blamed them for insulting youth icon Swami Vivekananda and Bharat Mata by tearing their posters after storming a seminar by Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat, an RSS outfit, at the SRFTI auditorium on September 27 which later led to a violent clash.
