Srinagar: The Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday visited the forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir to interact with the officers and jawans to appreciate the crucial role they are playing towards defending the country and having displayed dedication, bravery, and selflessness during the recent escalation with Pakistan.

A defence spokesman here said that the Army Chief visited the forward locations coming under the Dagger Division of the Army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps-also called Chinar Corps- and interacted with all ranks.

While addressing the troops, the Army Chief commended them for their “valour, josh (spirit) and vigilant actions towards dominating the LoC during ‘Operation Sindoor’, the spokesman said.

He said, “General Dwivedi also lauded the role played by the troops in destruction of terror camps in PoJK and appreciated the role played by the Dagger Division in providing succour to the civilian subjected to dastardly trans-LoC shelling by Pakistan”. He added, “The Chief of Army Staff emphasised the need for troops to remain ever prepared to respond to any challenge with decisive force.”

Meanwhile, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has said that the nation is proud of the armed forces for avenging the Pahalgam terror attack by launching ‘Operation Sindoor’ to target the ‘terror infrastructures’ in Pakistan.
“The Nation is proud of our armed forces for scripting a historic victory saga of ‘Operation Sindoor’ with bravery and avenging the Pahalgam terror attack. They have given exemplary punishment to terror planners sitting in Pakistan by dismantling their terror bases and killing top terrorists,” he said in a series of posts on X.

He also posted pictures of the Defence Minister interacting with soldiers at the Army’s 15 Corps headquarters at Srinagar’s Badami Bagh Cantonment and said, “The world has seen that terrorism in J&K Union Territory is engineered and executed by Pakistan and our mighty forces have ensured that now we will enter deep into Pakistan’s heartland and kill the terrorists and we’ll also treat future acts of terror as an act of war.”

Endorsing the Defence Minister’s call to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take the nuclear weapons of Pakistan under its supervision, he said, “As Hon’ble Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh Ji said, Pakistan’s nuclear blackmail won’t work now, and its nuclear weapons should be taken under the supervision of International Atomic Energy Agency.”

Meanwhile, schools and other educational institutions in five border districts of the Jammu region reopened on Thursday after an eight-day closure necessitated by the India—Pakistan escalation following the ‘Operation Sindoor’.

Officials said that students and teachers returned to schools in the select zones of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch districts following the local security assessments.

The Directorate of School Education issued zone-wise reopening orders, directing school heads and Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs)to enforce safety protocols and coordinate closely with authorities.
