Bhubaneswar: A man died after being bitten by a snake while filming a social media reel at his home in Odisha’s Puri district on Saturday.

The deceased, Tapan Pradhan, was a resident of Kanthapur village under Puri Sadar police limits.

He was reportedly known in the locality for rescuing snakes and regularly shared videos of his snake-rescue activities on social media.

According to reports, Pradhan was filming a reel with a snake on the veranda of his house when the reptile bit him on the hand.

He was initially rushed to a private hospital and later shifted to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

In a separate incident, a minor boy reportedly died after being run over by a train while filming a reel on railway tracks.

With short-form videos gaining popularity, the pursuit of online views and engagement has sometimes prompted content creators to take dangerous risks.

Experts have repeatedly cautioned against handling venomous snakes without proper training and safety measures, as well as filming videos in hazardous locations such as railway tracks.
