Rat Feasting on Ice Cream Cone at Mumbai's 7-Eleven Outlet Sparks Outrage
Viral video triggers public backlash over hygiene standards at international convenience chain.
A shocking video showing a rat nibbling on an ice cream cone at a 7-Eleven outlet in Navi Mumbai has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage and raising serious questions about food hygiene at the international convenience store chain.
The video, believed to have been recorded by a customer, shows the rodent perched atop an ice cream display inside the store, comfortably munching on an unwrapped cone. The clip has since been widely shared on platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), with users expressing disgust and demanding accountability.
Authorities from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have reportedly taken note of the incident and are expected to inspect the premises. "Such negligence is unacceptable, especially in a high-footfall chain store. We will investigate the matter thoroughly," a BMC official said, requesting anonymity.
Netizens slammed the store’s management for allowing such lapses. “How can a reputed store not maintain basic cleanliness?” a user wrote, tagging food safety authorities. As of now, 7-Eleven India has not released an official statement addressing the viral video. Meanwhile, health activists are calling for stricter checks on urban food retail chains, especially those dealing with unpackaged consumables.
