Dehradun: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Almora on Thursday was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
According to party sources, Gandhi had to return to Delhi from Pantnagar airport after his helicopter could not proceed to Almora due to inclement weather.
The Congress leader addressed party workers and supporters virtually after the cancellation. He also interacted with the parents of Ankita Bhandari, who was killed in a case that had drawn public attention in the state.
Gandhi’s two-day Uttarakhand visit was called off following unfavourable weather forecasts for the next two to three days.
His scheduled programme included a public meeting in Almora, an interaction with ex-servicemen in Pauri and subsequent engagements in Mussoorie, along with meetings with party leaders and workers across the state.
“We came to Uttarakhand today morning to meet people. We took heli from Pant Nagar to Almora but pilot said it's difficult to reach Almora due to inclement weather. We had to return midway to Pant Nagar. I wanted to meet you and talk about political and economic situation of Uttarakhand. But it's sad that we had to come back. We will do this program again as soon as possible,” Gandhi said.
State Congress leaders said preparations for the rally had been completed, but the programme could not be held due to weather conditions.
